Weston Bridge Replacement/Rehabilitation Projects

 

 

1) Davis Hill Road Bridge Preservation and River Road Bridge Replacement (State Project 157-086)

This project consists of the superstructure replacement with substructure modifications and repairs for Bridge No. 04960, River Road over Saugatuck River; and Preservation of Bridge No. 04351, Davis Hill Road over Saugatuck River.  The project has an estimated construction cost of $5,193,400 and funding for the construction is provided under the Surface Transportation Block Grant (STBG) Program - Off-System Bridge (BRZ) with a funding ratio of 80% Federal and 20% percent State funding. 

Construction of the project was awarded to New England Infrastructure, Inc. and work commenced in August 2023.

**Residents are kindly requested to seek alternate routes to avoid construction at both locations.**

 

Davis Hill Road Bridge – May 24, 2024 Update

The rehabilitation of this bridge is being done in two phases such that the bridge will be open during the majority of the construction phase.  The Contractor is currently wrapping up Phase 1 work with necessary demolition and concrete repairs completed.  De-leading and repainting of the steel girders is in progress and expected to be completed within the next two weeks.  New bridge rail will also be installed within the next two weeks prior to shifting to Phase 2 work activities anticipated for mid-June.  Phase 2 work is anticipated for completion by August which will be followed by full paving of the bridge.

 

Residents are kindly requested to seek alternate routes to avoid construction.

 

River Road Bridge – May 24, 2024 Update

**This bridge is currently closed.**

Work at this location includes full replacement of the bridge superstructure.  To date, all utility relocation and tree removal has been completed as well as the demolition of the existing bridge superstructure.  Existing abutment caps have been repoured and work to extend the west abutment is ongoing.  New beams for the bridge are expected to be place by July with placement of the superstructure concrete to follow.  Paving of the road along with placement of new bridge rail and guiderail is currently anticipated for late September.  Upon completion of paving and installation of bridge and guiderail, the bridge will reopen to traffic.  Fencing removed on adjacent properties will also be replaced in late September.   

 

2) Michael’s Way Bridge Replacement

**This bridge is currently closed.**

 

This project consists of the Replacement of Bridge No. 07001, Michael’s Way over West Branch Saugatuck River.  The project has an estimated construction cost of $2,980,300 and funding for the construction is provided under the Surface Transportation Block Grant (STBG) Program - Off-System Bridge (BRZ) with a funding ratio of 80% Federal and 20% percent State funding. 

The construction phase was advertised for bids in October 2023 and bid were received November 15, 2023.  The Town has evaluated the low bidder, Brunalli Construction Company, and intends to award the Contract upon receive of the Construction Project Authorization Letter from CT DOT.  Work is estimated to commence in Spring 2024 with a construction duration of 231 calendar days.  Construction is expected to be completed by the end of November 2024.

Michael’s Way Bridge – May 24, 2024 Update

**This bridge is currently closed.**

Proposed work at this location includes full replacement of the bridge superstructure.  Utility relocation work has been started with installation of temporary utility supports ongoing.   Bridge deck demolition has commenced with bridge deck removal anticipated by the end of May.
