Exhibit Explores the Findings at
One of Weston’s Oldest Homes

Opening Weekend: May 18 – 19, 2024 1pm – 4pm
WESTON, CT – The yard of one of Weston’s oldest homes, the Peter Thorp House, reveals its
past lives in the new exhibit, “Weston…What Lies Beneath” at the Weston History & Culture Center,
104 Weston Road in Weston, CT. The exhibit’s opening weekend is Saturday, May 18 and Sunday, May
19, 2024 from 1pm – 4pm. “Weston…What Lies Beneath” will run every Thursday and Sunday 1pm –
4pm from May 19, 2024 – March 2, 2025, excluding holidays and holiday weekends. Admission: FREE

What started out as a weekend garden project turned into a discovery of objects spanning two
centuries, by current homeowner of the Peter Thorp House, Maryclare Roos. And what began as an
easy way to document her findings turned into a thriving Instagram account, @peterthorphouse, with
over 31,000 followers from all over the world. Join the Weston History &Culture Center and Maryclare
Roos on an exploration of how the past finds interesting ways of revealing itself to the present. From
coins to pottery to pipes and everything in between, these discarded treasures allow for a glimpse into
the past. Also explored will be past owners, including former opera sensation, James Melton, and their
influence on the home’s evolution. Through objects, rare photographs, videos, and hands-on activities,
discover what lies beneath and who lived above. The Peter Thorp House has recently been featured in
Domino Magazine and in photographer Shana Novak’s latest book, The Heirloomist: 100 Treasures and
the Stories They Tell.
