Rise Up, Sisters! chronicles the diverse group of Connecticut women who were
instrumental in the movement for woman suffrage. The exhibit tells many different
stories, from the Smith sisters of Glastonbury who spoke up about injustices against
women and helped to spark others to follow in their footsteps, to Alice Paul, who put
her life on the line to force the issue on a national level and whose tenacity helped to
sway public opinion in the final hours. Objects connecting to suffrage from the Weston
History &; Culture Center’s collection will also be on view.
Visitors to the Weston History & Culture Center can also enjoy a guided tour of the
1841 Coley House, brought back to the 1940s when the last three generations of the

Coley family lived in the home together. The Coley House tour offers a look back at life
for a rural family during World War II. Also on view in the Coley House are three self-
guided exhibits, “Life in the 40’s”, “Twelve Moments in Weston History” and “Let’s
Play”. Coley House visits are $5.00 for adults, $3.00 for children, and free to members
of the Weston History & Culture Center.
