Women inducted in the Connecticut Women's Hall of Fame persevered to preserve their culture and ensure that minority groups receive an equal place in society. “Honoring Connecticut’s Black, Indigenous and Women of Color”, a new talk by the Connecticut Women’s Hall of Fame, explores Connecticut women such as Fidelia Hoscott Fielding, who preserved the Mohegan-Pequot language for future generations, Ann Petry, who gave a voice to black writers, and Maria Sanchez, a strong advocate for the Puerto Rican community and the initiator of bilingual education in Hartford.
About the presenter: The Connecticut Women’s Hall of Fame honors the achievements of women by celebrating their legacies and telling their powerful stories, inspiring women and girls to realize their own limitless potential. Founded in 1994 in Hartford, Connecticut, the Hall fills the void that traditional curricula still fails to address and, today, stands as the state’s premier source for Connecticut women’s history with 140 Inductees. These women’s lives and accomplishments are celebrated and documented through a wide spectrum of innovative statewide programs, which the Hall offers to Connecticut citizens.
